Plato's Republic is one of the fundamental texts of all western philosophy. Exploring the virtues of the city as a counterpart of the virtues of the soul, Socrates lays out a vision for a humane education that continues to bear fruit to this day. Each session, the book club will read aloud from this great dialogue, stopping for conversation. The majority of the work will be read during the calls, though some portions may be left to participants to complete offline, if necessary. A reading list and edition will be provided to participants, and no prior experience with Plato's works is required.
